Privacy information

DateLens is a browser-based product label date-reading tool. Selected product photos, OCR text and recognized dates are processed in your browser. Our website does not currently provide an account or upload endpoint for label photos.

Third-party code and model downloads

The OCR engine Tesseract.js and its language model are loaded from an external content delivery network when you run a scan. That provider can see ordinary requests for these software assets (such as your IP address). The photo you select is supplied to the OCR engine in your browser rather than being sent to DateLens or the CDN as an image upload.

Camera access

If you use the live camera, your browser will request camera permission. Camera frames are used locally to make a still image for scanning. You can close the camera or revoke permission through your browser settings.

Storage

The scanner does not save scanned product photos or OCR text to a user account. Your browser or network provider may independently record ordinary browsing information according to their own policies. Avoid photographing unrelated personal or confidential information.

Accuracy and safety

OCR can misread dates. Check every character against the package; never rely solely on this website to determine whether a product is safe to consume or use.
